The Institute is one of the TVET institutions charged with the mandate of training middle level technical and vocational labor force. Tharaka Technical and Vocational College was constructed between 2013 and 2017 by the government of Kenya and registered by Technical, Vocational Education and Training Authority(TVETA) under TVET Act (Cap 17, Laws of Kenya). The core mandate is to provide training to the large number of young people who graduate annually from the secondary and primary school system.
